VAT rate change problems for websites

By BenNewbery on Wed 26th Nov, 08 at 06:44:44

Following the pre-budget report from the chancellor Alistair Darling, which included a cut to the rate of VAT from 17.5% to 15% for 13 months from the 1st December 2008, many online traders will be faced with the challenege of updating their website to reflect the change.
Traders using off the shelf software should be able to make the change relatively swiftly using the site’s administrative facilities. However, traders with bespoke or legacy shopping carts may not be so lucky.

On a typical ecommerce site, the following issues may be raised by the changes:

  • Net/Gross product pricing
  • Automatic VAT calculation in the shopping basket and at the checkout
  • Integrity of data relating to historic orders i.e. whether the value of an order placed before the change in VAT will be affected by updating the rate on the site
  • Calculated totals on order receipts/invoices

If you are concerned about whether or not your site is built to cope with the change, please get in touch with us. We will be able to put your mind at ease or else help you to implement any necessary changes.

New Fresh Devs Site

By BenNewbery on Wed 24th Sep, 08 at 09:57:57

Today at Fresh Devs we begin the launch of our new website. We have some fantastic new content on the way and will be making various updates in the coming days and weeks.

Many of our existing clients have already agreed to feature in new video tutorials and testimonials we will be featuring soon, and we hope the early launch gives you a clearer vision of were we are heading with our own online property and what you have signed on to help with.

You may also notice the new company blog and news pages, along with a great deal more information on our clients and services (although we are still working on much of the content). If you would like to edit any of your own company information on our pages you can do so via your company login or contacting us.

As well as the new look and feel, you  will notice we have stripped some of the usual content from the front page. We hope the new design makes it easier for our users to find the information they need as quickly as possible but if you have any trouble please do not hesitate to give us a call. Existing customers who need to login and manage their accounts should be able to find all the usual tools available however if you do find yourself lost and in a rush you can use the old site at http://old.freshdevs.com. Please note however we no longer support this old version and pages may well break as we migrate content to the new system.

The wider page allows us to present much more information than we could on the previous design and many of the new pages simply aren't possible on the old site.

As always, your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Fresh Devs & fish4homes

By BenNewbery on Fri 18th Jul, 08 at 02:07:10

Fresh Devs & fish4homes.co.uk

As we all know, the housing market has been a bit unsettled in the last few months, that’s why Fresh Devs and fish4homes.co.uk have partnered up to offer all Fresh Devs clients a special rate on our cost effect Pay per Response (PPR) model. It is very simple you pay a fix rate of £20/month and thereafter you pay £1.00 an email and £0.30 a click through to you website and £0.00 for calls. According to Bob North of the Estate Agency News “fish4homes have been out on a limb for some time now on their pay-per-response model but it does seem as if this may well be the way of the future and the newcomers into the market are certainly proposing alternatives to the subscription charges of the established portals”.

While other property portals are charging between £1.23 and £4.70 per response, our unique pricing model means some fish4homes clients pay as little as 30p per response!

Posting Downtime

By BenNewbery on Tue 26th Sep, 06 at 12:49:08
The ability to add posts/comments may act a little bizzare for a few minutes. We have launched an update from our main development server that is rather large and is taking time to transfer and perform. It's just a waiting game and should not take more than around ten minutes.

Server Tracking - Supported Games Survey

By BenNewbery on Fri 18th Aug, 06 at 07:10:04

We are trying to prioritize our development list of games to add to our game/voice-server tracking tools.

So far classes have been written to support the following:

  • Battlefield 2
  • Teamspeak
  • Americas Army

We would like to support a few more before we go ahead and publish the new features, and you can help us decide what games to include!

So please feel free to post and list the games you think should be supported and we will do our best to include the most popular titles at launch.
